Fushimi Inari shrine is free to visit (which is uncommon among Kyoto’s shrines). It is staffed from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., but it’s open 24 hours per day, 365 days per year. It gets very crowded, so visit early in the morning or late in the day, or even at night.
In all of Japan, there are about 32,000 Shinto shrines dedicated to the important god Inari. The main sanctuary and head of the entire network is located in the city of Kyoto. Known worldwide for its more than 10,000 torii gates in a row, the Fushimi Inari Taisha shrine attracts around 3 million visitors the first three days of the year alone
